Introduction

Law 2/1985, of 21 January, assigns a number of responsibilities for Civil Protection to the Ministry of the Interior, to be executed through the Directorate General of Civil Protection and Emergencies (DGPCE).

Specifically, pursuant to the provisions of Royal Decree 1571-2007, of 30 November, which develops the basic organic structure of the Ministry of the Interior, maintaining technical relationships with counterpart agencies in other countries, especially in the European Union, the Mediterranean and Latin America, is the responsibility of this Directorate General, as well as participation in the meetings of international agencies with responsibility for civil protection and emergencies, and in the commissions and working groups established within the European Union.
